Cruise Control Intermittent

Postby kboaz2001 » Sun Jun 09, 2013 4:44 pm

The cruise control on my 1992 Gold Wing works intermittently. I was told last year that it might be the speedometer cable. I had to change the speedometer cable and transmitter on the front wheel this year because of a jumpy speedometer. The cruise control is still intermittent. The neutral light and OD light both work fine. Any ideas?

The clutch lever bushing is famous for wearing out, without noticeable side affects, until it begins to fail...intermittently.

Test your clutch lever for excessive wear. Pull the lever as you would to use the clutch, release it completely. Now PUSH the lever to see if it has returned to its full-out position, if it hasn't, you'll notice that the lever moves further forward when you push it, even very gently. If the the lever has this extra play, then you may be experiencing the problem(s) I described in the 7th entry to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12019

Take the bike out for a ride again and HOLD the clutch lever forward while using the C.C. If holding the clutch lever doesn't prevent the C.C. failure, try the same technique with the brake lever, and after that, the brake pedal, until you've found the faulty control, or eliminated them as a problem.

Clutch or brake circuits both have relays connected to the cruise..if not totally off will stop the cruise. The relay/switches can hang up.
