Speedometer head broke, Fixable? or buy a new head.

Postby Davek80514 » Sun Jun 23, 2013 11:31 am

My speedometer head quit working and I'd really like to fix it to keep the odometer correct. Can it be fixed? What's the best way to replace it? Not sure what to do.

Are you sure what's broken..could be the cable or the gear at the wheel or the speedo itself.

Cable and the gear were checked Saturday when I had the fork seals & bushings replace. Shop said it's the speedometer head is stripped.

Depends how handy you are. and what's stripped..if it's the seat for the cable head clean it out, fill it (JB weld or ???) use cable end to form the slot and let it sit for 24 hours..should hold. If it's the gears inside..new speedo..taking them apart is possible but parts are not available unless you find a cheap one junked at a breaker..that's damaged but gears in good shape.
