Fan stays on won't shut off

Postby Grandma9 » Sun Apr 18, 2010 11:37 am

I have a GL1500se 1995. When I turn the key on the fan is on. Start and run still on. Only way to get it to shout off is pull the fuse! Going crazy tying to figure this out. Any help?

My guess would be the fan thermo switch is stuck on. I don't know about your bike, mine is located on the thermostat housing. you could check it with an ohm meter set to ohms. If it is stuck on, you would get the same reading as if you touched the two meter leads together.

Yep, fan thermostat switch has failed (unless you've managed to pinch and short out to ground the wire leading to the thermostat switch, which will have the same effect).

Is that the switch on the thermostat or the switch on the radiator? If I remove the wire off the switch on radiator the fans keep running. Thanks so much for helping.

I would look around the thermostat housing for the fan switch. pull that connector to see if the fan stops.

The switch is under the left radiator. That is the only switch in the circuit. Sounds like you have a short in the ground wire somewhere. If you pull the black wire from the switch and the fan still runs then that has to be the problem. The switch provides a ground path for the fans.
