The cruise on light not illuminating with key on and cruise button in tells you the ECM is not getting power. Side stand and neutral lights work, right. Check ign/cruise 15A fuse (no. 2) I think. Then swap relay (8) I think with another one if the cruise on light comes on you found your problem. If not next item to check is the kill switch, both wires should be hot in run position.

My '90 Wing did that on and off for a while. Died then would suddenly start to work again. Discovered that there is a common joint on the wiring harness under the faux tank on the left side of the frame. Apparently, it is a point where all (a lot of) the ground wires run to/through. At some point it poked through the covering and was grounding out the bike. Choice was to replace the entire harness or cut out the dead spot and re-build. Cheaper and faster to excise the dead spot and I was on the road again later that day.

7 fuse is parking I think and will only get power when key is turned backwards to parking position with taillight burning.

If your gonna replace the switch, you could practice repairing the one you have.
They disassemble fairly easily and should clean up fine.Stretch the spring just a touch too.You may end up with a spare.

I had a feeling the switch had something to do with my problem from the start just wasn't shore how to check it , told my buddy I ride with sometimes when I ate my cruise I would rest my hand on top of the right handle bar the kill switch would be warm to the touch I didn't know it had power running to it I Gus's I should have check it sooner and it would not left me on the side of the road leave and learn
