88 1500 engine dies randomly

Postby deck60 » Sun Jun 30, 2013 9:04 pm

just bought this bike runs great rides great it just shuts off when it wants to !!!!
does seem to be associated with a bump on the road. It will shut off - if you cycle key it is back running does it at all speeds with cruise on and off

I am suspecting these

ignition switch
kill switch
stand switch

Hello and welcome to the forum.
You may want to include the 'Bank Angle Sensor' there was a recall for those, the fluid inside leaks out and the switch becomes erratic in operation. Have Honda check the VIN to see if the recall was ever done.

+1 on the bank angle sensor which is a safety device to shut engine down when bike tips over, you do want it functional.

As a test you can bypass it to see if the stalling out stops. Under the seat and near the trunk is a row of 6 electrical connectors, look for the dark green one. Unplug it and jumper the 2 outside wires of connector towards the front of MC. They are the red/white and green wires.

If stalling stops order new sensor if not reconnect and look elsewhere.
