Bearing check 1500

Postby hap2 » Fri Jul 19, 2013 4:16 pm

How do I check the front wheel bearings on my 1500?

Also, there seems to b a rubbing noise from the front brake area most noticable at low speeds. The disc is still smooth, so how do I check it?

I wish to take the bike on a long (400 miles [so 800 mi return] ) trip [probably & unfortunately solo] & wud like to know how to make sure it's safe to do so. Just wondering what to check.

I just wanna get there & back.

Thank you

Check out the video at the top of this page: How to replace your front wheel bearings

Sometimes it is as obvious as it was on my 1500 in that video. Sometimes you can't tell until you take the wheel off and turn the bearing inner race with your finger, and feel the "grinding" sensation.

As for the brake - if you lift the front wheel in the air (put it on the center stand, and use a trolley jack under the engine block to gently lift until the front wheel comes off the ground) and spin it, are the brakes rubbing?
