Gas leak

Post by cyupta40 » Sat Jul 20, 2013 12:31 pm

When I run the engine at idle (while parked and on the kick stand), fuel leaks profusely from beneath the fuel tank. However, fuel does not leak when I shut the engine off! Any suggestions as to what the problem is or where the fuel leak might be coming from?

NOTE: ...............I noticed that the fuel tank consists of two sections welded together.
Is it possible that the fuel tank is under pressure when the engine runs and when the engine heats up, the welded seam separates causing fuel to leak?

The 1500 has 2 fuel dump lines under the bike.
1 is attached to the tray under the gas cap.As the bike is running, the vacuum operated shutoff valve may be leaking and running out the pipe.
Open he door, start the bike and look for gas around the gas cap.The valve is just in front of it.
There is also a carb overflow pipe, just in case a needle valve dosen't seat.I think... :?:
