I have an intermittent starting issue. Typically after I shut off the engine, and sometimes when I cold start, and try to re-start i get a single click noise and it will not start. I have been moving the bike forward and back, in neutral, and then it will start. I have installed a new relay with the same results. 1994 Aspencade with a new battery last fall.

Try wiggling the starter button as you push it in. These critters can develop dirty contacts and you don't even notice til it's too late. Push the button, fails to start, release the button and the motor 'clicks' as the contacts met for a split second with just enough conductance as you released the button. If this is happening to you, try varying degrees of pressure as you push the button...and then take the switch housing apart, remove the switch, and clean it up.
Keep the rubber side down.
