Postby hineybee » Thu Aug 08, 2013 9:58 pm

I have a 1988 1500 that has no fire to the plugs now. ran great one day, won't start the next. timing belts good, timing right on. could the run switch or side stand switch be bad? HELP

I assume it cranks but won't spark..right?
My first suspect is the kill switch.Second is the tilt angle sensor.
I can get color codes of the wires if needed.
As I remember there's a bit of safety circuits that 12 volts has to go through before it gets to the ignition module.
I downloaded the 89 euro manual from here to get the schematic for my 88.

I downloaded that manual. Gonna try to locate and test the tilt, run and side stand switches. Any advice on procedure to test will be greatly appreciated

If it cranks but no spark, start at the kill switch wires right on the handlebars.
See if there's volts there.

Got her running. Had no power to the I.C.U. wired a ignition on hot wire around the dead connection. Works fine now. Suspect the kill switch. Don't like or use it anyway!!! The for all the help

To improve available voltage to the ECU during cranking..(the ECU doesn't like to fire below 10 volts)..I used a relay powered from the battery and operated the coil of the relay from the existing harness wire that I disconnected from the ECU..
I noticed that if the battery was weak,it would crank the bike but no spark...I measured 9.8 volts at the ECU and 10.6 at the battery....
