The left channel on the radio emits a soft high pitched noise-no music. Any ideas?

Assuming this noise is through both the front and rear L speakers and the L headset.
Seems like a main board problem, seek out a audio repair specialist, some can diagnose and fix by testing components having only the standalone board. Problem is sometimes the repaired fault can be a secondary fault caused by a primary fault that can go undetected until assembled. Then the primary fault will trigger the same secondary fault again. Curcuit board diagram may be needed though. Good used working radio costs 1/2 what they cost in the UK, and more available, I would replace the radio, may be cheaper in the long run.
If at first you don't succeed, hide the evidence.

If you're off during the week, take a ride down to Sierra in Troy. They can prolly give you a quick honest opinion on what to do. If they can fix it cheap you might want to think of having them wire you up for a mp3 player.
They're not open on the weekends.
