I may sell my Valk and get a Goldwing

Postby foots » Tue Aug 27, 2013 3:13 am

I'm considering selling my '98 Valk standard and upgrading to either a Valk Interstate or preferably a Goldwing 1500. I've been doing some research but I figure it would be helpful to ask actual owners/riders a few questions. Are there any Goldwing specific problems/issues to watch out for? Are there any certain year/models to avoid? Any recommended improvements to be made? Thanks in advance.

I would say just be aware of the 96-99 1500's as they had an issue with the alternator. I had a failure on my 96 and it was replaced with a Compufire..plenty of charging power now! Other than that...my Wing has been great! Just now coming up on 200,000 mile mark! I like the Valk Interstates too! That would be my second choice!

Other than the timing belts at the suggested mileage, there is very little to. Anything else is common to all bikes.Wheel bearings greased, fluid levels, fork oil levels, proper tire inflation. I'm not aware of charging or shifting issues, but mine is a 93.

You didn't mention how much you were thinking for a price....
Also there's a few gl1500's around the area ( Southern La.)....look on craigs list...I see 4 of them from $4000-$7500.
There priced about right....As always..expect to invest at least a few hundred for maintenance...Not every wing owner is a DIY'er.

Thanks for the replies guys. Nice to know there aren't any major issues with these wings.

Virgilmobile, I hadn't mentioned a price because I'm still haven't decided for sure if I want to part with my Valk and make the move over to wingdom. The price ranges for the wings around here aren't that bad, and if I do decide to sell, I'm going to take my time looking for the cleanest, best maintained wing I can afford. I've also started putting aside some extra cash, too  . I am willing to travel to eastern TX., northern Louisiana and western Mississippi for a wing if need be. I've learned when buying something that patience, research, and a lot of shopping around almost always pays off.

I understand....while I still ran my 1100 and 1200,I accumulated a little stash....It was 6 months later when the "deal" presented itself...on craigs list locally no less.....
I had to sell the bikes to finance all the upgrades I wanted but a year later I'm riding the BEST bike ever made....In my mind obviously.
