right handle bar switch replacement

Postby furnacedoc » Wed Sep 11, 2013 8:48 pm

Hello, I am having trouble with the start switch not letting my headlights come back on . I have tried wd-40 and contact cleaner but still having problems. I am planning on replacing the switch this winter. Has anyone else had to replace the switch cluster ? if so how hard was it and do I have to remove a lot of the fairing to do it? Thanks see ya on the road

Personally I wouldn't replace an entire cluster just for one switch. Have you had the entire switch apart?

WD-40 is not what you should be using for this, it will actually make things worse.

Contact cleaner (CRC is excellent) is what you need.

When I had a high beam switch go out, rather than replace an entire switch cluster, with all the wiring and disassembly involved, I just desoldered the wires from the old one, and soldered the wires to the new one.

Have you actually disassembled the switch to clean it out?

No,I have had it apart to get to the switch but it is encased in a plastic cover and I didn't try to go further because of the possibility of breaking it when we are still in the riding season, decided to wait until the winter season .is it possible. To remove the plastic cover on the switch .

Wingman, can you tell me where I can buy just the switch and not the whole assembly?
