GL1500 I SHIFTER WOBBLE

Postby BUBBACAYMAN » Tue Sep 17, 2013 10:14 pm

Have been having trouble shifting especially into 1st. gear. Investigation revealed that the
shifter arm going into the transmission moves up and down (wobbles) about half an inch.

I need a HOW TO FIX THIS instructions, video or recommendation.

This is a common problem. It's been well covered here before - have a look at these two threads:

Hopefully yours is just a loose coupling..Your gonna have to get on your knees and look...might as well say a prayer while your down there...

I can only hope yours dosen't have the problem mine did....I finally found the only repair "by the book" was to remove the engine and replace the needle bearing, fork arm and a bunch of other stuff.....BY THE BOOK....I opted for my own solution..Not for the casual oil changer mind you but it was necessary.

Here's the 2 page saga on mine..viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9365
I guess mine was the worse case scenerio...just before the fork damage...
I now have a very crisp shifting lever...It still is clunky sounding as I expect but I never miss a gear.
