Backlit controls

Postby sdadean » Mon Sep 30, 2013 11:24 pm

I have a 1998 GL 1500 Aspecade. The controls do not come backlit. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if a newer model's controls that does have back lit controls would fit mine. If not any idea where I could purchase aftermarket ones.

I read on this site that you could add led lights inside the controls so I took the turn signal, horn, headlight control apart and shone a flashlight inside of it and it wouldn't shine though. They are all solid where the words are.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rivco makes a thin mat with lights for GL1800 handlebar controls. It goes on externally. I thought I saw them for the 1500 controls at one time years ago but do not see them listed on the website. You could check their website http://www.rivcoproducts.com/ and look around, or give them a call, number is on website.
Also you may have better luck reposting this on the GL1500 forum, it gets more attention than the Tech forum.

The handlebar switches started using LEDs to light them up on SE's in 1990. I can't imagine that 1990 switchgear wouldn't fit your bike.

WingAdmin....don't believe that is true...my 96 had "grain of wheat" incandescent bulbs in the controls and I just last year followed your instructions to change to LEDs. Made a great improvement to the lighting.....just saying!

Argh, you're totally right - slip of the mind while typing. I MEANT to say they started using those tiny bulbs to light them up. They have never used LEDs, which is the reason for replacing them WITH LEDs.
