GL1500SE front fork air valve

Postby bjatwood » Sun Oct 06, 2013 6:38 pm

OK guys, just finished up putting my new valve covers on the SE and deceided to change my fork oil. Taking the left fork air valve off I didn't realize there might be some air in the shock and after loosing the air valve with a socket I finished the rest by finger tip until the air blew the air valve off the threads and down into the black abyss of the motor bay....Are these valve's, HONDA part number 51456-469-013 much different than a tire air valve? Of course I burped the right side's air valve before loosening it up and all is well there. So do I really need Honda's $20.00 air valve ,or will a regular tire air valve work?

Standard schraeder valves push through from the inside of a tire and seal with rubber on the inside. These are a bit different - they are threaded on both ends, with a hex piece in the middle to use to unscrew it from the fork. It also uses an O-ring to seal against the fork. If you can find such a beast with the correct thread sizes, then by all means substitute.

I ordered one from the local Honda dealer. Put a 8mm 100 pitch bolt in the hole till Thursday when the new valve is supposed to come in.....
