Stereo amps and speakers

Postby sdadean » Tue Oct 15, 2013 9:46 am

I need to replace my 1998 1500 Asp's front speakers and add rear one's. Would anyone know what the stock stereo's output per channel would be or at least total output.

Any recommendations for speaker upgrades (name and brand) for the front and possibly the rear? I would need the whole kit for the rears, nothing there now.

Thanks

I don't have that info, but I do have something that I was told about the rear speakers. You can't hear them while you are driving. When you are stopped you can. Driving down the road, all the sound is behind you and it will not move forward. You can hear the front speakers good because the sound is moving towards you. These speaker kits with the built in fader, (which is a must), can get very expensive. Just my 2 cents.

Any other riders out there agree or disagree with Maddog about not being to hear the rear speakers? Looking for some more feedback.

i don't know the power output of your radio but if you add the rear speakers that power will have to power four speakers insted of two and you might end up with less sound

The passenger might be able to hear the rear speakers, I think that's primarily their purpose anyway.

My SE came with four speakers and you can hear all of them. Naturally if you use the fader to adjust front to rear, the speakers dialed in will be louder. J&M sell replacement units but I understand they are only marginally better than stock, which I believe were 15 watt units. A lot of Wing owners that have replaced theirs, have opted for the Polk 4" DB401. These might need a little "massaging" to fit. They also are reported to fit the rear. Type in "1500 GoldWing speakers" on an eBay search and you will be inundated with options.

i had a audio issue .. i have just fitted new POLK DB 401's and 501's ..no amp .. but i did fit the fader ..i have awesome sound at any speed ..the AVC kicks in gret ..you can get good ballance with the fader ..one recomendation though ..clean all stereo connectors /plugs with electrical contact cleaner

fitting the fronts , was easy ..just a slight modification to a couple of mounting holes ,, the rears just fell into place without any issues ..Polk supply all the fitting hardware ..to make life a little easier ...As i live in the uk ..the waterproofing will be put to the test ..but up to now( been in a month) riden in very heavy rain i have had no issues at all ..crisp clear loud sound

highly recomend polk
