? about center stand on 95 Aspencade

Post by kwn306 » Sun Oct 27, 2013 7:37 pm

I just purchased a 95 Aspencade and really think I got fooked. 1st off the bike runs like crap even after 2 cans of SeaFoam, getting about 25 mpg and can run my Subaru off the fumes coming out of the exhaust.

The bike has been sitting for 6 yrs and the tires are very old, but I purchased new ones for safety sake. I put the bike on the center stand and nether the front or rear tire comes off the ground. Usually the rear tire comes off the ground when putting a bike on the center stand.

Did the previous owner shorten the center stand? It does look like there has been some welding performed on the center stand.

Will any GL1500 center stand work? Are they a PITA to replace?

If you bike has an air pump, decrease the air in rear shock and the rear tire will come off the ground when on center stand.

It was very common, around here anyway, for 1500 owners to buy shortened center stands to make it easy to get the bike on the center stand. Vendors at shows would swap a short stand for the one on the bike, then shorten the stands for the next show. The short stands made it easy to use the center stand to keep the bike vertical but were not tall enough to lift the wheels off of the ground.

So Goldwing rear tires are supposed to come off the ground when on the centerstand? Didn't know that. Mine always has the back wheel on the ground, even if I take all the air out of the shock. The guy I bought it from said that it was a "Ride on, Ride off" stand. So that means that it has been replaced. I just thought that came from Honda that way. I earn something new everytime I come this site.

Maybe the floats are stuck open dumping gas into the engine? A lot of people seem to like those ride off stands. I've never tried one but the regular center stands work for me.
