vibration in nuetral

Postby Maddogg » Thu Oct 31, 2013 8:02 am

I have a vibration when the bike is running and is in nuetral. It goes away when I pull in the clutch. Not sure what this is. I also read somewhere on here that there is a way to test 4th - 5th gear by putting the bike on an incline. Not sure how the procedure is done and what it is for.

I've got a also has a bit of a "rumble" that goes away with the pull of clutch lever..It has less than 55k miles. It has had the rumble from when I bought it...8k miles ago and 1 year...

I was not concerned..I just think it is the clutch basket or neutral shaft rattle I've heard in a few wings...

1 out of 3 of my older wings sounded the same way, especially the 78 gl1000 and I've read that it's common in the 1500's..there was a fix for the gl1000 but I never bothered...
I don't suppose I'll bother with this one either..
Considering what would be involved to quiet it's not worth my time...
****Unless I find out that it is a serious problem that NEEDS to be done,I'm gonna live with it.***

Now if the bike has more of a clicking is a problem...

This fellow needs transmission work with the 3/4 shift fork....Ouch$$$

I've also read that the alternator dampeners can cause a bit of a rumble at a idle but I don't think pulling the clutch lever would quiet it down...

I'll do a bit more research and post what I find...In the mean time,do a oil change...try Rotella 15-40 or 20-50 diesel oil....Many like it...seems to quiet the engine down and smooth out the transmission too.

Mine also makes the growling noise in neutral. Common noise on the 15. Ride it like its stolen. It will still make the noise. There is probably some clearance or end play in the drum that wont hurt the bike.
