Checking Cooling Fan Operation

Postby rottiman » Mon Nov 04, 2013 5:52 am

I have all the plastic stripped off my 88 in preparation for a timing belt change and some other servicing. Is there a way to check the operation of the fans without running the bike? Spun the blades by hand and they seem alittle tight.

You can pull the rubber cover off of the thermo fan switch and short the wires together. That will spin the fan if it is working. The fan can be disassembled cleaned and lubricated for better operation. You"ll be surprised how much faster it will spin.

Sorry I just noticed your bike is a 1500. For some reason I read 83 not 88. I have never had to test or clean the fans on my 1500. Not sure about cleaning them. Testing should be the same.
