headlight bulbs

Postby Maddogg » Fri Nov 08, 2013 4:40 pm

I puchased the 6260HD bulbs from Cyclemax but Do I need the shims for them? I don't want to tear it down only to find out I should of bought the shims for them. Then it sits until I can get the shims in.

If it is a standard automotive H4 style, you can just bend the tabs back out of the way. I did that with the Sylvainia SilverStars and with my HID's I just trimmed off the plastic tabs. The flat in the base of the bulb alined with the coresponding shape in the headlight base so the filiment was situated correctly.

They are direct fit so no worries. I put those same bulbs in today along with a modulator and the bulbs went in identical to the stockers. I also put in some different position light LED's but not sure I like them. They are very blueish. They stand out a heck of a lot better than the stock bulbs but they look a little weird.

I thought a modulator wasn't needed for these bulbs.

What exactly does a Modulator do anyway?

They flash the headlights off and on rapidly to make you more conspicuous, making you more 'visible' to oncoming traffic!

While I don't have the headlight modulator, I did install a brake light modulator to make my bike more visible to those following me

Just a note about those bulbs you bought:

You won't need any shims for your year of bike, but ..... I wouldn't install them as they are basically junk
A couple of years ago I bought/installed a pair of those same bulbs as an 'upgrade' over my existing OEM bulbs (Both of which were working) Both of those 'cheap' replacement bulbs failed within a year (1 within 2 months!) :o :? , so if you do decide to install them, have a pair of 'back up' bulbs with you for when they do go. You are better off installing a better quality bulb IMHO!

I would think those headlights would be distracting to drivers. I like the brake light ones. You got those at Wally world? Are those modulators legal in CA. or do you know? I haven't heard anything about the 6260HD bulbs. I was looking for something brighter and found a couple of posts on them.

Has anyone else heard anything bad about these bulbs?
