Brake light issues

Postby Ex VTX Rider » Sat Nov 16, 2013 9:26 am

Hi everybody. Just move up in the world from 10 years of "punishment" on a VTX 1300 to a 93 aspencade. Should have done this years ago! Anyway, all the rear running lights work fine until I apply the brakes. When doing so, the right running light, right brake light and the right light behind the Goldwing logo go out until I release the brakes. I'm pretty good with tools and a meter as I did my timing belts, spark plugs, all fluids and filters in my garage in about 5 hours. Any advice on where to start with this? Thanks!

Thank you for the ground info. I traced the grounds starting from under the seat with continuity on my meter, and sure enough, found it at the 6 pin plug attached under the trunk. Made the repair and good to go. Now I just need to figure out why there is no sound from the rear speakers. There isn't a fader control anywhere nor is there even a speaker output for the rears on the stereo according to the wiring diagram.

I think the rear was a "option" including the fader control.
My 88 had the fader(left side of the shelter in front of the radio). It didn't have speakers or wiring from the rear either.
I had to add wires from the new speakers all the way to the fader.

And no,the radio does not have a output for rear speakers,at least mine dosen't,it uses the external fader control to split the audio to front and rear.

Are you sure that there are speakers back there? For the most part rear speakers had to be added to the 1500.Whether it came with rears or had rears added at some point the fader control was usually mounted just to the right or just behind the ignition switch.Neither were really marked as such if I remember right.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

The speakers are there and they tested good with another music source. I also checked continuity from the harness under the seat the the speaker plugs for broken wires from the trunk opening and closing. All good there. I have looked all over for any knob that might resemble a fader, but nothing. My next step will be to order one and install it. Are there better quality other than the OEM units due to all the posts I've read that the don't last very long? Also, where is the best site to purchase the headsets for the intercom system? Thanks again!

On the left andle on the side there is one knob on the side for fading (it's transfer sound from front to back)
