tail lights

Postby josua60 » Mon Nov 18, 2013 11:40 pm

I don't know if anybody's had this problem, but i had my wing triked by CSC and really like it except!!! The lights on the kit work great in the night but in the daytime, especially when the sun's shining on them they're almost invisible, at least thats what I've been told by bikers behind me. Tried the brighter 1157 bulbs and can't see any difference except for the cost. I'm not sure if its the way the lens is cut or the clear bulb. Has anybody tried possibly a flat red plexiglass homemader or something like that? A friend has a Harley trike and you can see his brake lights with no problem. Any thoughts? Makes me very nervous.

Nature of the beast! Also, using flat red plexiglass will make it worse and will make your lamps illegal!
There is an optical pattern in the lens to spread the light pattern to hit "target" spots in order to pass FMVSS requirement.
Those with clear outer lens usually have colored inner lens with the optical pattern on them.
No experience w/CSC but, I sometimes wonder if these trike manufacturers make sure the OEM lamps are mounted in the trike bodies to "work" correctly, as in aimming the light where it's intended to go.

I have noticed that when following friends trikes, the lights don't stand out well. Maybe you could add some LEDs for better visibility.

I have noticed this when driving in my van behind a trike too, often wondered about adding those LED one inch by two inch marker lights and wireing them to work as brake lights only type of thing. . . ?

Something like these for example, say three or four of them added to the rear of the bike.

I figured as much about the DOT approved thing. Will be checking out some led strip lights for under the bumper just for the brakes. Thanks guys
