Broken Headlight adjust nob...1990 GL1500SE

Post by DougR » Tue Nov 26, 2013 3:04 pm

When I turn the headlight adjustment nob on my 1990 GL1500SE it free-wheels, no friction, and does not adjust the headlight angle.

How does this nob work? Any idea on which part may be broken? Have any of you experienced this?

Thanks for any opinions.

Doug

btw, picked up a nail on my back tire...exceedra. Didn't realize they were tubless until I took it to the shop today...ouch.

I have to rotate mine 5 or 6 (not sure I didn't actually count) full revolutions either direction before it finally starts to adjust.

After 5 or 6 rotations, does the friction increase?

Thanks

A little bit. This knob turns a cable which runs around the left side and into the front headlight space. It connects to a small plastic piece that gets screwed outward when the cable turns. This pushes the top of the headlight outward, which pushes the light downward. The headlight is spring loaded, so when you turn the knob the other way, it retracts, and the headlight moves back up.

The little piece that pushes the headlight might be retracted a bit far, and not yet contacting the headlight. Keep turning and see if it makes any difference.

Yes it does and I can adjust the light.
