55 amp main fuse

Post by jajeanquart » Wed Nov 27, 2013 6:35 pm

I saw a limited number of posts on the dogbone fuse........I replaced mine on my 82 Wing with 30 amp fuse holder
I was wondering if there is any current update on replacing the dogbone on my 91 with fuse holder, but read there was no 55 amp push in fuse
.. Does it make sense to replace the ''above'' with fuse holder and use a 50 amp, or just continue to carry extra dogbones should things go south?

I think the largest of that type/size blade fuse is 40 amps, so not enough for the GL1500. I haven't replaced mine, but then I have them doubled up because of the Compufire alternator.

Here is an idea if you are looking to put an inline fuse in. The only draw back is the fuses only come in even numbers ie: 40,50,60 They are larger than your regular automotive fuses. Mainly I have seen them in larger trucks.

Hope this helps

55A fuses are an orphan. A good alternative are MAXI fuses a larger heavy duty fuse used in the trucking industry with protection ratings up to 100A, 60A would be fine.

My larger output alternator has been steady since changing to a better fuse. No problem for 2 years, now with 50a fuse.
