Timing Belts

Postby nitefuzz » Fri Nov 29, 2013 2:33 am

I have a 1998 1500 SE it only has 20,000 miles on it and I am pretty sure the Timing Belts have never been changed. Sounds like, from what I have been able to find, they should be good for up to 100,000 miles or ten years. Well being a "98" that makes them 15 years old and now coming up 16 years. Going to try and replace them but there are several different brands out there. What brand do you guys recommend and what is a fair price range for them. Looking for what Brand and fair price for timing belts. Thanks

there is a set ( 2 BELTS ) on sale at Saber Cycle for $36, don't want to waist my time putting cheap ones on unless that's what is normal price and if anyone has used those before.

I would be very leery of anything that Saber Cycle sells!!!! Do a little digging and you will find out why! :o

Gates T275 belts are the ones you want/need and best price for 2 of them with free shipping is from Amazon.com.
I originally changed out mine in 09 and replaced them again in the spring with those ones. :geek:

What Dusty says. Stay away from Saber Cycle!!!

Rock Auto, a site sponsor, also sells them.

Yup, what he said. Saber Cycle is the worst, both in terms of quality (i.e. none) and customer service (worst on the planet). Have a read through this: http://goldwingdocs.com/Vendors/Saber-Cycle_880

Ok, thanks for the info on Saber Cycle,............... I'll look elsewhere.

I looked on Amazon and they are only $16 each,.......... that's cheaper then Saber Cycle, need to know what others have used and have good results with.

For WingAdmin, what do you recommend for the brand and who/where to purchase them from.

Gates (like the ones I linked to on Amazon) are the makers of the OEM belts that Honda uses! Can't get any better than that. ;)

I went with Gates from Amazon too. I dont really know if my belts had been changed but they seemed in good shape. But its cheap insurance to replace them.

Gates. They are also a major industrial belt supplier so will not be a problem with quality. Most automotive belts are probably made by Gates and just put their name on them (Honda; Toyota; Ford ect). Most auto supply stores can get the Gates belts with no issue and much cheaper than mother Honda.

Those Gates belts from Amazon are what I put on my bike. As mentioned, Gates makes the Honda OEM belts, and I believe someone said at some point that Gates also manufactures the NAPA belts as well.

Gates belts are the only recognizable brand you will find. The others are 切边带 and you don't want those.
