Possible Trike Purchase...Questions

I found a 1995 GL1500 which is 400 miles from me. It It was converted to a trike in 2000. I believe it's a Lehman conversion.The person selling recently inherited it, and said it's a solid axle. It has 26,xxx miles. It appears to have a CB. He said it was garage kept and maintenance was up to date. He's asking $13,300

Can anyone tell me which version of the GL1500's this is? Aspencade, Interstate...?

Is the low miles a concern for a carburetor engine?

Anything I specific to look for when I go to inspect it. I have read on the forums that there may be a problem with the 4th gear on some GL1500's, especially if there is a heel/toe shifter, which this looks to have. How can I tell if there is a problem...grinding, inability to shift into 4th...?

I also understand the alternator may have been a trouble spot. Anything to look for here?

I don't see a handle for reverse and that would make it an Aspencade I think. and a pain in the butt when you need reverse. Looks good tho.. Ask if it has reverse

I agree about reverse- you do need it with a trike, especially with the running boards as you can't get your feet down to push backwards properly.
Check for the suspension at the rear- has it got air shocks or standard. Also take it out on a bumpy road before you buy- my trike is great and has a solid axle, but on a really bumpy road it is not as comfortable- I'm having the shocks switched to air shocks over the winter so I can adjust them- otherwise it is great to be able to ride without worrying about dropping the bike anywhere dangerous.

I zoomed in on the side pic and it looks like it has a reverse handle. Also, that type of radio, from the pic, came on the SE model didn't it? check the dates on the tires. has it been sitting long? Make sure you check the air compressor to see if it pumps up the shock. I think the shifter problem from 4th to 5th was because of improper oil changes or the shifter fork. With that low of mileage, I don't think that the shifter fork should be a problem. My opinion.

Looks like an SE to me, the trim on the valve covers look gold also.
A little Seafoam in a fresh tank of gas does wonders.

I also found a 2000 GL1500... I'm waiting to see if that guy comes down in price.... If he does, I'll post that one to get your feedback.

One way to tell if it is an SE is the control switches are lighted, on the Aspencades they are not. I had a 98 Aspencade that also had the gold 1500 on the valve covers. The VIN number will also tell you the model, Aspencade's are 1HFSC220 and 221, the SE is 1HFSC223 and 224.
