Mirrors

Postby bstig60 » Tue Dec 17, 2013 12:08 am

Had a warm day today and I decided to take a short ride..... 100+ miles. Just after I took off, I noticed my right mirror was split right down the middle. The bike had been run every week, but had not been ridden in about 3 weeks due to lousy weather. Any suggestions on where to get replacements..... And, how difficult are they to change????

Try a Glazier. (The people who handle glass, make mirrors, and are a pane to deal with  ). They should be able to cut a piece of mirror for you to the shape and size that will fit, and if you are lucky enough, they may even fit it for you.

Thanks for the suggestion. I would like to keep the stock enclosures and was wondering if just the mirror glass could be replaced. I can get a pair of chrome replacement mirrors from Show Chrome for about $85 dollars US.

search ebay. They do sell those, also partial inserts and empty outer cases. You should be able to build a whole mirror from parts. The parts, added together tho, would probably cost more than that set you already found.

Here is one in the UK, from one quick google search using "mirror glass GL1500 Honda"

I had the glass break on one of mine. I was able to acquire another mirror and broke the glass trying to remove it. In hindsight maybe I should have heated it up a bit. I don't know. If you get a replacement in a different colour take it to a glass shop and see if they will do the swap. They probably won't guarantee that they wont break it though.

Keep in mind if going to a mirror/glass place that the mirrors are actually slightly convex, not flat. You would get a different sight picture with less area shown behind you if you put flat glass in as a replacement.

why not replace with Muth mirrors. Procedure to replace is pretty straight forward and seems easy to do AND you get additional directionals on top of replacing your mirror.

I will check them out, but my first impression is the price is really steep.
