GL1500 Rear Brake Rotor.. Which year?

Postby landisr » Wed Feb 05, 2014 7:38 pm

Hi. A few months ago I bought a rear brake rotor for my 94 A. By the time I got around to opening the package to install it, I discovered that it did not match my existing piece. The diameter, drill pattern etc were not compatible. I believe it was advertised for a 1988 model. I am attaching a picture to see if anyone can confirm whether it looks like one from an '88. I was under the impression that the rotors were compatible throughout the 1500 series, but.. ?? Can anyone confirm this?

TIA. Ron in AZ

The 1988 and 1989 use a different set of front brake rotors than the 1990-2000 models.

1988-1989
45251-MT2-003 DISK (RIGHT) (FRONT) BRAKE 1 0.00
45351-MT2-003 DISK (LEFT) (FRONT) BRAKE 1 281.60

1990-2000
45251-MT8-000 DISK (RIGHT) (FRONT) BRAKE 1 249.14
45351-MT8-000 DISK (LEFT) (FRONT) BRAKE 1 249.14

Thank you, Sir. It looks like I have an 88/89 rear rotor ready for Ebay. :D

Have a good week, and I hope the weather there settles down for y'all.

You can use either rotor on any year 1500,but you have to have the caliper mounting bracket to match the rotor. The 88/89 rotor was a smaller dia. than the 90 and up and those rotors are hard to get,so most people get the newer bracket and rotor for them.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

See it's an old thread, but incase some do a search and read.

The rear for the 88' & 89' are different than the 90'-00'.

The rotor, drive flange, dust cover, caliper bracket and rim.

I have an 88', have mounted a 94' rim/flange, and removed the rotor and swapped my 88' onto it.

I have another late model rim, and am looking for a late model rotor, as I want the 5 pin flange from the late model drive, and to use the larger brake rotor.

I ended up finding a local, mint 1996 swingarm with everything (rotor, caliper, mount, differential, rim, brake line ) for $130. I even got an almost new tire with it.
