Remove / Replace Front Exhaust Protectors

Post by tcparry » Sun Feb 09, 2014 7:15 am

This is a question about the gasket protectors (washer type) on both sides of the front exhaust protector at each stud. Are these really necessary, do they really accomplish anything. Would not plain washers be OK? Would it hurt anything to use plain washers?

If I need to replace them down the road I'll probably use an internal lock tooth washer. You remove those washers once and they mostly fall apart. I don't think they have a whole lot of insulating value for a hot exhaust system.
