Got one !

Postby Uncle Fester » Wed Feb 26, 2014 12:51 pm

Well, I got me a 'Wing ! I got a serious deal on a blue '96 from a good friend. . . .

I do have one problem, I feel really bad as I had to back out of the deal I had going with a great guy on here due to some medical bills I had to deal with and I hated doing that. . . . So, if you are reading this, again, I am sorry our deal did not work out for the '89.

The deal I got on this bike was just way to good, I could not pass it up, so. . . .

I will take delivery of the bike next week if all goes well, the dealership the bike is at is trying to find a pesky electrical drain that is only present when the bike is off, got to love those. . . .

Good looking GW. Have you been able to track down the electrical leak? They are a swine to find sometimes. Good luck with the one that you got! Much better than telling us about the one that got away :D

The dealership is still searching for the short/ draw. . .at least as of Tuesday 5pm.

They THOUGHT they had it pinned down to a short inside the stereo, but that was not it, so the search is still on.

Congrats and good luck with your new ride.
Re the electrical drain: I had a self caused electrical drain on my 1500. I added LED trunk lights and tapped into the wiring for the vanity mirror lights to power them. This power is switched off when the trunk is closed. The problem was that while the switch was not adjusted properly and allowed the LEDs to remain on when the trunk was closed. If the bike sat for more than a week it was enough of a drain to kill the battery. If I worked the switch by hand the LEDs went out but they remained on with the trunk closed.
It took me a while to find it. I found it by connecting an ammeter in line with the battery so I could see the current being drained. Then I worked all the switches on the bike until I found the one that stopped the drain.

Great looking bike, almost same color as my 94 Honda Del Sol.

After the alternator went out on my 89 there was a slow drain, found relay that were holding. Not sure which one it was since all were pulled at same time.

The 96 Sparkling Pearl Blue was a 1 year color although Honda revisited it 2001 , but it was not the same . You now have a rare Goldwing and a wonderful color that is the best ever ...

I know ...I have one too... 8-)

Never seen a GL1500 that color. Very nice! I also like the Light Green Honda had in 99 I believe...

Little known fact, the 1996 Blue, is also the fastest color. . . .

It took me 2 years of looking to find my bike . I bought it just for the color, but I had to find the right one . That was 85,000 miles ago and it still looks the best ...

Maybe not the fastest ...but chicks dig BLUE and everyone knows it :ugeek:

Not gonna happen. Today either. Scoot is apart for new headlamps. Are you still getting delivery Wednesday of the 1500?

Wow...what a nice looking bike at a reasonable price.....
If that one were close to me I would consider buying it, moving my stuff onto it, and selling my current one...seriously... :geek:

Postby Uncle Fester » Thu Mar 06, 2014 1:47 am

Well, I just got done helping Craig ( the dealership owner ) unload my baby, got her fired up and ran for a bit. . . . Then tucked her in with her brand new cover for the night.

I am very happy, with one exception, the dang TULSA windshield ! Too dang tall and swept back for me. . . . anyone in Oklahoma City, or near by wanna trade for a stock windshield ?

My 1500 had a Tulsa extra tall when I bought it. Didn't like it very much either then. Now I couldn't get rid of it for stock if I wanted to. I do most of my riding on the 1500 with the wife and she wouldn't let me get rid of it now. For the pillion rider it is great. I have become used to it and I have no problems.
I guess we're not a real bikers. ;) We don't like the wind in our face.

Just curious, what dealer did you buy from?

H&W Power sports in Palestine Tx, except the battery drain issue ( not their fault ) everything went great . I like them and would recommend them if you are in that area.
