1987 Aspencade GL 1500

Postby re774c » Mon Mar 10, 2014 3:22 pm

For the Honda experts. In 1987 the Aspencade was produced with the 1200cc motor, but the one I have has the 1500 in it. I was told that Honda began experimenting and put the 1500 motor in the 1200 frame. Can anyone confirm this? How rare are they and are they worth more?

If they did, I'm 100% sure they did not release it as a saleable model. Are you sure it's a 1500, 6-cylinder engine? I can't see how that could possibly be fit into a GL1200 frame without a huge amount of custom frame modification, not to mention a different rear end, driveshaft, radiators, on and on...

Can you post a picture of it?

I really thought I had the first of the 1500's...the 88...a completely different beast.
Could you post pictures of this.???
Frame,wheels,under any covers,battery location,rear shocks,radiator(s)...anything to identify that it is a 87 Aspy(other that the tag)......I'd really like to see a 1500 engine on a 1200 frame...

Well I don't know if I got the better end of the deal or not. The person that I bought it from said it was a 1987 model. With your responses I got to looking the bike over real good and it turns out to be a 1989 model. I would post a picture but it won't let me.

I just picked up an 1989 GL1500 also in Candy Wineberry, great color, looks just like yours. And as Virgilmobil says they are a great bike and you can see from my signature sheet I'v had many bikes of all brands and the GL1500 is the best overall of them all. Altho I have to say the newer models with the roller bearings in the valve train like my previous 1994 Gl1500I are not as noisey. You got yourself a great bike, download the manual and you can tackle almost any job on keeping it for the next 200,000 mi.
