Voltage on a Gl 1500 Alternator,

I think my alternator,, may have gone out,, can anyone one give me some tips on How to Check it,, and what the Voltage should Be,, It is a 1988 GL 1500 Wing.. the other morning on the way to work,, dash lights seemed a bit dim,, but thought it might just be me,, Bike ran fine,, It started up fine to com home,, and then died at a light,, got a flat bed ride home.. any tips on how to check would be great,,

If you check the battery voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running, the voltage should be about 12.9 v at idle and around 13.9 volts above 1500 RPM. If you can not start the engine because of dead battery and you think a bad alternator is why the battery is dead, fully charge the battery with a battery charger and then start the engine. Voltages should be as indicated above.
