Cruise stable now on my 1500

Postby virgilmobile » Tue Apr 29, 2014 8:15 am

At speeds below 60 mph the cruise would hold, moving only 1Mph up or down...However when set at 70 mph,it was unstable. It would climb to close to 80 then drop off to 60.
I did notice that the spedo needle started to wiggle a bit as I got above 65 and quite Noticable above 70.
A wash and dry lube of the cable stabilized the spedo and the cruise.
2 hours set at 73 mph with seldom a change of even 1 mph.

thanks for the information. It appears the pulses from the spedo were erratic enough to upset the cruise.

Where was the info you're thanking someone for Virgil.... How the heck did you 'wash and lube' that cable????

I've pulled the speedo off the axle, cleaned and lubed it but neve the cable.

It was a post about a failed cruise control .Will not come on.
I removed both ends from the bike and pulled the inside cable out.I washed it with brake cleaner.I used the same with the spray nozzle and flushed the housing till it ran clear.
I then flushed dry lube graphite into the cable and also sprayed the cable .Got the graphite all over the place too.
Simple reassembly and done.
Well kinda..I already had the instrument cluster out for new lamps.

Thankx from me 2. My cruise control on my 1500SE is just dead so now I know where to start. The electronic approach is just too mind boggling.
