LED Accent Lighting

Postby sjb15316 » Wed May 14, 2014 5:46 pm

Hey Fellow 1500er's

Bought my trike a Dec '12 because girlfriend was "uncomfortable" on 2 wheels. Our riding 'buddies' have one and so I bit the bullet and purchased this one. Every time we would go riding, he would 'shame' me by all the LED's he had installed. I finally decided to do something about it. After much research, I decided "I can do that" and bought a 2 5M strands of 3528 RGB with controller and then the headache began. I really wanted them to be completely hidden so the task of routing wires and installing the lights where they would not be visible was just a matter of time. I've put over 400 lights on it and run them with a switch so I can turn them off and on when I want. I still have some left over, so I may add more as I decide where to put them. This is the result thus far.

Looking good so far. . . More in the future ?
Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself. Our stress about it happens when the two aren't the same. Be true to yourself and to hell with what everyone else thinks!

I just picked up a Sylvania LED strip lighting setup (12' long, 12V DC powered, 72 LEDs) with remote control, from my local Costco. Pretty cool, extremely bright, will do anything you want, in 16 colors, including strobe, fade, flash, smooth transform, steady, etc.

Now I have to figure out if it's realistic to mount them on the underside of my Wing... :o

I wanted to point out a couple of concerns of mine regarding the lights your purchased. First off, I'm not the "KNOW ALL - BE ALL OF LED LIGHTING", but I've worked with it in more than one application, so I am not a rookie any longer. I'm not sure you are going to be happy with that strand/string/reel of lights. While every LED light is much brighter than the average bulb considering it's size, you actually need quite a few per meter for effect. If you will look on-line, they are several to choose from. My lights were 60/M for a total of 300 per reel. Also, there are many sizes. My lights work out to 18 LED/foot and are very visible. But if you only have six (6) LED's/foot, I think you might be disappointed. Again, it depends on the desired effect you are looking for. Also, I had "more bike/trike" to cover, so I had to order another reel because I ran out. I have close to 30 feet of LED strips wired so far and will probably use what is left over somewhere on the trike eventually. I simply hate to see someone go to all the trouble and not be happy with the end result. Feel free to contact me if you wish. Good luck with your project and post a pic of the final result!
