pulsating brake light controller HELP
I bought a kuryakyn pulsating brake light controller for my 93 Wing. I had to do a lot of internet research because the instructions were for the 1800. With a lot of trial and error I found the wire coming out of the C10 connector (green/yellow) that went to the brakes. I cut the wire per instructions and installed the controller. When I hit the brake "no pulsating brake light." I used my circuit tester on the controller and had a solid light going in and pulsating light on the tester coming out but NO pulsating lights on the bike. Yes I had brake lights. Have I used the proper wire? The bike has been triked but I don't think that should be a problem as I have lights with or without the controller. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks Again Wingrider93

Just a thought...doesn't the controller module require a ground too..???

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
Hi. WingRider93
I have just installed one myself, on my 1500 SE, and it works fine. Is it the Controller in a sealed black box.
I purchesed a So Called Kit vesion for 12 Quid each and not one worked when I soldered it all together and Im a PC engineer, that fixes motherboards....
Just to be sure, did you use the earth to the rear Brake Lights?, I Used the earth point under the seat to be sure of a good contact, (even though my brake lights work OK), Because the Controller has a circuit board, it relies on a good connection all round.
I purchesed the Intelegent Controller, for both brake lights on the TopBox. So it has 5 Wires, One Black - To earth, Two Blue (inlet to Controller) and Two Yellow Outlet from Controller.
Dont Know if this fixes anything fro you But must admit worked fine for me.

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
It's entirely possible that whoever triked the bike originally hooked into the brakes BEFORE the point where you installed your modulator:
(apologies for this crude drawing, I did it on my phone)
That way, your modulator would still appear to be operating correctly, but the brake lights just aren't actually connected to it.

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
Yes I hooked up the ground wire. I called Kuryakyn for help and they said to get a new one and see if that makes a difference. Which I did and that one does the same thing, NO PULSATING BRAKE LIGHTS. The only thing I can think of is I don't have the wright wire. Is there a website with good instructions and pictures for a GL1500? I'm adding to this reply now. Even with the controller installed I have brake lights, just no pulsing. I don't know why, I can use my tester on the out put side of the controller and it pulses but the lights don't. I don't think the light were taped into before the C10 as like I said I do have break lights now even with the controller installed. Thanks Again Wingrider93

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
Where exactly did you connect your brake modulator? Can you include a picture if possible?
The input wire - does it have 12 volts only when you apply the brakes, or does it have 12 volts on it at all times?

Hi Again WingRider93
Sorry but I think you still have a positive feed from your original Green\yellow cable.!!!! When you splice the two cables from the Controller/Modulator (in my case Red and Yellow-- May have said blue in my Original post) you are supposed to sever the Green\Yellow cable between these two cables. As you have a feed in to the controller to make the pulse ____ and One out to Give the pulse to the Bulb. All connected to the Green/Yellow cable and cut the Cable between them, Otherwise the cable is still live with Positive Feed.
Again just a thought..

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
As the Admin pointed out.
It's gonna end up being a wiring problem...Your statement...Brake power input..OK..Flashing output..OK...
Lights not flashing,steady on...
Forget about the color codes for a minute....If the "flashing" wire were hooked to a lamp it would flash.
I can only assume that the wire that feeds the brake lamps were not cut free from the bikes harness..and the "flashing wire" does not attach to anything....
Perhaps it was not used in the conversion....
You could prove this by cutting the flashing wire loose.....by the diagram, the brake lamps should no longer work...Ill bet 7 cents that they still do....
It simply must be....You will need to locate the brake lamp wire,or the common feed wire to the brake lamps and cut it there and insert the flasher module....
Remember..when you cut the brake wire,ALL the brake lamps must go off....This will be the "main feed" wire to all the lamps..

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
virgilmobile: Thank you, I disconnected the out put side and the brake lights still came on. So I do have the wrong wire cut. Does anyone know what color the proper wire should be as I don't have a repair manual. Thanks for all the help!!! Wingrider93

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
Yes thats normal . I mean when brake is applied its constant positive. So no flashing/pulsating. Cos the cable is still attached to the original brake feed .

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
Exactly right... the cut wire could not have been the main feed wire for the entire brake lamps...It must have been one that was left unused when the bike was converted to a trike.Huntersbane wrote:Yes thats normal . Possibly the saddlebag brake lamp feed wire..

Re: pulsating brake light controller HELP
By the way WingRider93,you could also ground the flasher module under the bolt to the side of the plug instead of tapping into the harness wire...
