Signal lights on 94 Goldwing

Postby hazelwoodgarage » Thu May 22, 2014 9:52 am

A guy wants to sell me his 94 Goldwing and told me I could ride it for a few days 1st. Was riding it last night and found the signal lights don't work, no flashers etc, the fuses test ok, I also found that coming up tp stop signs the headlights get dim then brighten when I take off, the battery cables are very clean.

Do the turn signals come on and just not flash, or do they not come on at all? Do the hazard lights work?

If you're at a stop sign and you notice the headlight gets dim, does it brighten up if you rev the engine up?

Are there any aftermarket electrical accessories added that may be sucking a lot of power - i.e. additional lights, etc.?

I would put a voltmeter across the battery terminals and measure the voltage both at idle as well as at 2,000 - 2,500 RPM.

The hazard lights work and the bulbs are all good. the turn signals still won't do anything though.
This is a very plain Goldwing with no cruise, no reverse and no ad ons, yes it brightens when I leave the stop sign or rev the motor

Dim lights at a stop are normal. Brake lights use a lot of power and the alternator can't keep up at idle.
Good luck with the other difficulties, I have nothing to help you with.

When you say they won't do anything - do they come on and not flash, or do they not turn on at all?

As mentioned, the stock alternator can have issues with brake lights which do draw a fair bit of power. You can always switch the brake light bulbs with LEDs to help with that. Or, replace your alternator with a Compufire and never have power issues ever again.

Well, I figured it out. I took off the seat, and noticed a big mouse nest under the trunk, I used my air compresser hose and blew out the nest and found some baby mice still in the nest, I thought, wonder if the little buggers chewed off the wire, took out the 4 bolts inside the trunk, propped up the trunk, and sure enough, fixed the wire and now have blinkers

Open up your air filter box and check the condition of your air filter then - mice love to nest and chew away in there.
