GAS IN DRIP TRAY BELOW GAS CAP

Postby TYHOLLY1 » Sun Jun 08, 2014 1:10 pm

Lately I have noticed that my vent tube from the cap is soaked with gas and that the drip tray has a good amount of gas in it. I did see a diagram for the venting of the tank but wondering if I may be overlooking the obvious. I rebuilt the petcock because of the gas dripping in the tray. I didn't notice at the time that my vent hose from the cap was saturated. Do I do anything or just deal with it on a 18 yr old bike? Thanks

Is this a CA emission model? The tank is either being overfilled or has a cap problem. Does your tank upon removal of cap after riding hold a slight pressure with an audible release of vapors? If not the cap is straight open to atmosphere and unless a PO drilled it would benefit from a cleaning.

Would a VIN tell if it's a CA emission model? It will seep into the tube and tray regardless of the tank fuel level. I DO in fact hear the pressure release after riding it. Like when you leave a non-vented gas can out in the sun and it vents when you open it to air. You said "unless a PO drilled it would benefit from a cleaning". I'm unfamiliar with what a 'PO' is - previous owner?? :) I'll take the cap off and look at cleaning the cap and I'll report back. Thanks!!

PO = Previous Owner
SO = Significant Other (could be spouse, boyfriend/girfriend, or a friend with benefits :roll: )
GW = GoldWing
CB = Citizen Band - a radio system to enable communicating with others.

There are many more, but if you come across one, ask - dumb questions are always easier to fix than dumb mistakes.

mine was the fuel regulator leaking. ordered a rebuild kit on e-bay , installed it along with new fuel lines to carb and done.
