left side cover 0n 1997 goldwing

Postby grizzlybear1943 » Sun Jun 08, 2014 9:47 pm

purchased this 97 goldwing SE gl1500. It seems like there is alot of issues I am finding. so far had radio problems having very low volume, clock and radio station changes after turning engine off, now on the left cover those plastic studs that connect into grommets, well one of the plastic studs broke off. Is it possible to reattach the stud to the cover using some type of strong glue.
Any answers to all my problems would be appreciative.
Thanks for reading the board.
Ben

First off, your clock/radio issue is caused by a blown fuse: Fuse 13 needs to be replaced:

As for the plastic studs, you can try using ABS glue (plumber's glue or MEK), or something like Plast-Aid to reattach it.

You can also replace the stud with a metal one..still it has to glued in place..ABS cement, JB weld. etc. I think there is a how to thread someplace with pics..

plastic stud ...go here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-GoldWing- ... ce&vxp=mtr

plastic epoxy ...the only one that would work for me...
http://www.amazon.com/Devcon-22045-Plas ... der+devcon

may seem costly...but side covers aren't cheap...even at the salvage yard ( and if the salvage ones have all the "studs" they usually charge a premium)
hope this helps

I had the same problem with the plastic studs. This thread helped me with the repair.
