Dealer added fader removal

Postby Uncle Fester » Mon Jun 09, 2014 12:43 am

My 96 'Wing has what I am told is a dealer added fader, the kind mounted in a pyramid-ish pod above the stereo. Well any time I rotate the knob so that all four speakers are on, the volume drops way down, so I want to remove it.

Is this pretty much a plug and play, or in my case unplug and play, situation ? I just want to run the front speakers , as I plan to hook the rear speakers up to a police/ham/weather scanner that I am mounting in the trunk.

If you unplug it you will loose all 4 speakers.Turn it to the front and leave it.Unhook the rears and attach them wherever you want.

I have to believe if it was added in , by unplugging a connector and adding the fader in, it has to be reversible too. I guess I will have to open her up and start searching the wires.

As I remember, the fader plug has 6 wires.2 inputs from the amp and 4 outputs going to each of the 4 speakers.
Also I think there color matched.Something like "greens are right and blues are left "
Just jump the pairs and leave the rears.

Ok, once I figured out how to remove the tupperware, and what pieces to remove, removing the fader was REAL EASY !

This is a over all shot of where it is connected to the main stereo:

A close up of the three plugs used by the fader, two whites ( input and front output ) and one black ( rear output ).:

After unplugging all three plugs, plug the two bike side white plugs into each other and you now have front only speakers !

Just a FYI, reverse my process and thats how to add a fader . I was able to tell, mine was not working right due to being dirty, so I am going to clean mine up and it will be up for sale or better, trade plus shipping.

On a side note, I learned my bike has a K&N airfilter. . . .
