Plastic switch next to gas cap. 1988 gl1500

Hi new to forum. I have 88 gl1500. Next to my gas cap their is a plastic lever that slides. What is this for. Thanks

Inside that area, toward the top of the left and right side, there are plastic tabs. This is what helps hold the center console down.

If you take a look at some of the "how-to" articles you will find a number of them (e.g. Replacing air filter, changing radio back lights with LED, etc.) that will describe how the levers work. There are some GREAT articles btw.

Amazing how those goofy plastic tabs are the key to every repair on this bike :shock:
