Rpms with no actions

Postby Bigogl1500 » Mon Jun 23, 2014 8:26 am

Hello I'm to this forums I'm purchased my first bike two years ago my 1988 gl 1500 with 47000 miles what a jump for some who has never rode before. All I can say is I love it. I learned a lot in the year breaking down and fixing on the road. I recently came across my new problem I was traveling thru traffic when I find my self throttling up getting the rpms but not getting any response I changed gears and still nothing. I noticed once I release the clucth the bike continues to run while bike is in gea. Confused anybody any thoughts . Thanks

If I read this right, the rpm's go up but the bike won't go faster.
Its possible the bleeder hole in the clutch master cylinder is plugged.
After riding, pressure builds in the fluid and keeps the clutch from a full release.
The lever would feel "hard" as in no free movement when first pulled.
My 88 has about 3/8" free or easy travel before it starts to operate the hydraulics.

After it cools off, does the clutch work and the bike seem OK?
If not,the splines in the driveshaft may be gone.
If it does, clean the master cylinder and flush new fluid through the system.

It may be the same problem you would see when your brakes drag after driving a few miles.Look for the TINY bleeder hole il the master.Clean it out.
