Engine Replacement

Postby Huntersbane » Thu Jun 26, 2014 7:18 am

Hi All

As I am looking for a replacement engine for my GL1550 (1991) with 63k Miles and "NO" 4th Gear, I have been looking on Ebay (UK) with very little luck Some are for sale but a 1988 or 89 seems a bit silly to buy for £900 and over.

I was just wondering if a 1999 99 00 01 Honda Valkyrie Interstate Engine would fit. as its approx £1300 with 16k miles on her. Any thoughts :!: :!: :?:

Thanks

Huntersbane

No reverse on the Valk.

Not sure I understand? No 4th gear-why replace engine? Sounds like a tranny repair is needed?

Why the replacement!!! Because its cheaper to replace than get fixed I understand!!. About £1500 Labour to get the job done and about £700 parts. about £1000 to £1200 for a replacement.

As I paid £2500 for her about 18 months ago and had a re-spray and service at £3500, sinse then about another £1000 to get her through the MOT, Costs are getting Silly now..for a 91.... LOL

As mentioned, the primary disadvantage to a Valkyrie engine is the lack of reverse. Otherwise, it will fit.

As stated a valk engine will fit but you may have to take into account the piping and vacuum lines may be different the reason I bring it up is I put a 91 engine in my 94a and the vacuum lines were a little different and so was the antifreeze lines had to get a 91 right radiator as there were different. Also my reed valves were ticking could never find out why ( man did I try to track it down ) so be careful on your decision. And I did buy another 94 engine and swapped them out and all is fine now.
I have done so much with so little, I can do anything.
