Wheel idea

Postby Uncle Fester » Sun Jul 06, 2014 7:58 pm

Okay, my 1996 GL1500 is painted Shinny Pearl Blue, and I had a idea I want some opinions on.

I found a powder coater here locally, who has a powder color that is a VERY close match to my paint. I was thinking of powder coating the wheels body color, leaving the outer vertical ( roughly .5" ) face polished. I would then add the little bolt on chrome "spokes" to finish off the look.

What do you think ? The cost would be $250.00 for BOTH wheels, and as no one offers a custom wheel for our bikes that I know of. . . .

The polished portion may be difficult to polish when it needs it down the road. If I you want the accent, have that portion powder coated in silver or white. Then polishing would be a thing of the past.

Good idea, will ask the coater about that, or I could even have that section coated clear. . . .

Other than that, thoughts on the look .

Personally...I think it would look great...with the exception of the chrome part (not a fan of chrome!) Go for it and post pictures!!

I will more than likely do it, but it will be a winter project if/when I do.

You certainly have good taste in bike colors...
A fella I know has his blue bike with powder coated wheels..
He chose GREEN for his wheel color...The Orange bike has Black powder coating with orange metal flake specks...

My bike is the same year and color as yours..
But My wheels are still OEM ...

Blue bike with GREEN wheels. . . Not my cup of tea, but okay. The orange bike with black/ orange flakes wheels. . . Cool.
