center lower trunk lights replacement

Postby racoon5266 » Sun Jul 13, 2014 10:00 pm

I have a 93 1500 se Goldwing and I've noticed that in between the brake lights center reflectors has no lights. I wonder are there lights under there, maybe there burnt, can someone tell me how do I remove the reflectors to change the burnt light inside..

all other lights are easy to change.. this one I'm not sure.. can I just pry the reflectors and -they will come off..

need help..

Assuming this is the reflector at the very bottom of the of the bike ..below the license plate in essence. this was originally just a reflector if I remember correctly. It is removed with two acorn nuts just behind the panel. A kit can be purchased to make it a light...or LED strips can be added to the existing reflector...my picture is a bit blurry...but I'm referring to the lower lights below the license plate...

IF they are the light in the trunk panel..they can be accessed from inside the trunk by removing the two covers and twist/pull the lights out..

thanks for the help, I checked under the bike inside there are two screws I'll check if they are acorn nuts , if that's all then I'll be ok, and yes I'll probably put leds in there. I like what you did to your bike,
any hints with the installation.

again thanks

As I said, this may just be a reflector and not a light...if there are not any wires to it...then of course its just a reflector. I found on mine, that it was not glued like all the other light and can easily (but gently) pried apart and LED strips can be added...or you can buy the unit with light installed. If you use LED's be sure to use RED LED's...not white. If you use white, the light will will appear pink...red behind red...amber behind amber! To wire up, this can be connected to the light on the corner of the saddlebags by just splicing in.

I bought my LED strips at meritline.com they sell a 16 ft roll that can be cut to size and then solder wires to the splices...if you are able to solder. I did all of my saddlebag and trunk lights with LED strips from that one roll of strips. not a bad deal!

Here is a slideshow of all the lights I had changed to LED on my Wing (I did all the mods):

Under the DIY section are all kinds of great links on how to make the modifications...check out the DIY section!
Good luck...

If you mean the LOWER center light assembly (assuming it's already been upgraded to the light kit), here an install instruction sheet.

http://www.mototourinc.com/images/productpdf/2-350.pdf

If you're referring the the light assemble actually on the trunk (with the turn signals) you'll have to do some dis-assembly.

I just woke up so I can't detail all the steps, but when you put it back together MAKE SURE you properly reinstall the cable hook that is connected to the trunk lid release. Otherwise you'll be grabbing a coat hanger (or drill) to get you locked trunk open again.

This is actually an aftermarket item:

As you can see in the picture, there are two sockets in the back. They can be removed by twisting counterclockwise until they unlock, then pulling them free.

thank you very much.. and it's the one in between the brakes that's not lit up,
I was afraid to break them if I tried to pry them off like the side bag reflectors. the ones with the little tabs that break easy..
again. thanks.. I may purchase the kit looks great..

Its really not to difficult to open..just be gentle!! Mine didn't even have glue holding it together (but it was aftermarket too!) I actually put LED bulbs to replace the incandescent bulbs

I installed the aftermarket lights, it was not hard at all, once I got going, this site is such a godsend.. I know i can do the work myself and it's just getting the right info..
I also changed my timing belts. and changed to the pivot shifter.. that was a headache, but with the information that some went through helped me realize that it can be done.
I'm very proud of myself, and I could not have done it without this DIY...

I'm confident now driving my bike as I know it's all good,
my bike had 231500 klm.. 143 thousand miles.. the belts were cracking.. i'm glad I had the guts to do it..
it even drives better..
