Antennas on 1996 GL1500 SE

Postby goldwinger5566 » Mon Jul 14, 2014 11:58 am

I posted this on Tech Talk but I think this is a better forum for this question.I'm trying to remove the armrests that were installed on my 1996 GL1500 SE and am having a bit of a problem. When I remove the armrest and mounting bracket and try to reinstall my antenna I have a gap of maybe 1/16" or 3/32" between the antenna base and the trim strip on my trunk. Is there a chrome spacer that should go in there, or is there some adjustment to the the bracket behind the trunk side pocket that the bolts go through? I looked at replacement antennas and there is no spacer shown.
Any suggestions appreciated.

It's been so long since I installed mine..I don't remember if there was any adjustment...and I don't remember there being any chrome trim...will look tonight and see what it looks like and post a picture if you still need it!

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the brackets the bottom of the antennas are mounted to and they were bent! Looks like the guy who put the arm rests on tightened the bolts really tight. I took the brackets off and bent them back into shape and the antennas remounted just like they should. Next time I'll try looking a little more and blogging less.
