Does anyone now what these brackets are for?

Postby artgrantz » Thu Jul 17, 2014 2:54 pm

A friend recently purchased a 1500 that had two slotted brackets protruding from openings in a skirt below the trunk. The holes are ragged and it appears to be an amateur installation. My friend is the 3rd owner, these were installed by the first owner, the 2nd owner knew nothing about their use.
If anyone has ever seen something like this we are curious to know what they may have been used for.
They are not held in place by the helmet locks, there is a screw holding them in place.
Thanks

I'm just guessing.

To me what it looks like is an adapter to lock helmets that do not have a D-ring that would slip on the normal helmet lock. Rather than have them hanging down a previous owner cut a hole in the trim.

I don't think that trim is an OEM item. Too bad about hacking a hole in it. Looks like a nice piece. It could be removed though and then you'll look like every other 1500.

Those are helmet hangers..the switch to release them is inside the trunk right in the back corner. can be used with or w/o extensions hangers they just make it easier to use them.
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83

The OP knows about the function of the helmet hangers. He's asking about the bar attached to them and cut into a skirt attached to the u/s of the trunk.

I'm pretty sure they are some type of helmet hangers. I would remove the works.

I wonder if those hangers would fit my Nolan helmets as they don't have D-rings. I need to bring a cable and lock to lock our helmets to the seat.

If you decide to remove that stuff, I'd be delighted to buy the skirt from you. I've been trying to get my hands on one of them ever since I saw one on a 1500 here in my area. I've not had any luck locating one for sale so if you want to let that one go, I'd love to try to repair the hack job and install it on my trunk to better hide my LEDs. PM me if this becomes an option.

Sempai, it is not my bike. As I stated it belongs to a friend. I'll inform him of your offer. Thank you.

I would consider taking them off but leaving the skirt with the holes.
Mount some LEDs in the hole wired to the brake lights and you have added safety lighting ...
Just the way I would do it...or some red running lights, or LED Amber Turn signal lights ...
