Naked 1999 GL 1500

Post by Hukmut » Thu Jul 17, 2014 6:58 pm

Just got a 1999 GL 1500 SE without ANY plastics. NOT a pretty picture. I am wondering just what I can remove, as I am not really wanting to spend the cash/ time to search and buy all that is necessary to bring it back to stock status UNLESS I just happen to come across a dead GL 1500. I am thinking of just making it naked, but there is ALL THIS STUFF hanging ALL over it! UGG! Might even make my own body panels to cover it all. (I can do that)
ANY ideas and help would be GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!!! :)

Post some pics of what is on it, and if you want to sell some of the items... SOMEONE may be interested.... make a few bucks to make the bike they way you want it.... Good luck

Zip ties will secure all the loose stuff. It'll still be very ugly though.

Yes, let's see some pics!

I've vaguely wondered what a GW would look like naked. Have even thought about building a bike using the GW drive train but leave off the tupperware. You see all kinds of bike builds most use the v twin engine, I've never seen a boxer used. The hard part would be what could you eliminate and still keep the engine running properly?

Perfect rat bike put on a seat and ride!!! I'd try to make a one piece fiberglass to cover it all from the front of the engine to the back end with a few bolts and seat to hold it on, I hate all the plastic on mine it's a pain to remove to get to anything to fix it. It looks like one aerodynamic cowl could be made to cover it all. Throw on a headlight and you are good to go. 8-)
HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,

To be fair, that naked 1500 has been modified - a great deal of the frame (for bags, etc.) has been removed, and things like the compressor etc. that used to be mounted to that frame have been relocated. But it's still ugly!

so, let me get this straight. . . . if you strip a Goldwing of the tupperware, you DO NOT get a Valkyrie ?

For some reason, that bike reminds me of the "Mad Max" movie...it's just missing a few guns etc.!

So how much of that crap could you take off and still have a engine that runs?
