Did the SE models have trunk and saddlebag lights or is that a after market item?

My 97 SE does not have interior trunk or saddlebag lights, the mountings holes are there for the switches and lights but none were ever installed.

The light in the trunk sides and saddlebags were both after market additions. As well as the wiring harness that allows the trunk sides to flash with the turn signals. It is better to just add LED strips to those locations...Look in the DIY pages to see how to add LED's to those locations!

My 92 Aspencade came with the saddlebag lights when I bought the bike from it's second owner (who only had it less than 1 year and did nothing to it).
Could be it was a dealer installed Hondaline option, not sure. My bike came with a lot of SE options installed on it.

You can easily tell if your bike was ever fitted with them by looking at the underside of both the rear most saddlebag hinges for some wiring taped to them. If you find wiring there, then your bike has them
As for the trunk reflector lights, I installed them myself

About 1 1/2 yrs after I bought it, I noticed that the saddlebag lights were not working.
I did some digging around and found that the little black transformer located under the right rear saddlebag trim/corner that converts 12 v to 115(?) required by the lights was shot. (common problem)
I bought a set of the newer 6 light ones and installed them

Here's a shot of the Hondaline transformer (black box)

That was an aftermarket dealer installed electo-luminescent light for the wing. Even the SE model didn't come with lights.

Was the OP referring to courtesy lights inside the Bags?

Nope, it was not aftermarket, believe it not, that EL strip is OEM. However, to my knowledge, it was only on the 1988 model.

Incidentally, the inverter output was about 60 VAC.

Wasn't it offered by dealers as an option? All I can say is thank gosh for LED strips!!
