1990 SE1500 has no electrics

Postby Jester01 » Sat Jul 26, 2014 4:33 pm

Good day to all! I have a1990 SE1500. I had an intermittent short which caused the instrument panel to stop working and it would only start when it was pushed. I found that problem, and took her for a spin. I stopped for a coffee, came back and she was dead. Nothing...no radio, lights, no power at all. When I got her home, I found a capacitor in the engine compartment under the alternator. I found that it is only a noise suppressor. I checked what I could, fuses, dog bone, etc., all appear to be good. When I attach a trickle charger to the battery, I get radio, but nothing else. The relay also vibrates, but no power to even crank it. Any ideas and help would be wonderful. Thanks

What was that problem/solution?

Oh. OH, there was a wire by the ignition which had worn through. Repaired it and 'twas fine.

Hi again. Well, I charged the battery...just because. When I turned the ignition to acc., I got radio, but no dash lights. I turned to start, and there was nothing...but there was a terrible clicking in the fuse box on the left side. I started checking, and when I removed the #3 relay, the clicking stopped, and the radio and some of the dash lights worked. Any thoughts?

Well that relay is for the tail lights, among quite a few other things. It's possible you have a short somewhere?
