What upgrades have you made ?

Postby Uncle Fester » Wed Jul 30, 2014 7:28 pm

This thread is mainly for the Long Distance riders here, such as Iron Butt Assoc members.

What mods have you made to your bikes for long distance riding ? Things like map lights, AM/FM radios, cb/ham radios, driving lights, what have you done ? If you can, please include pictures.

Have a look at mine...I've made a few changes (additions mostly) since I made this video, I should really make a replacement one:

Great video, Scott. What is the bike PC that you talk about?

Yeah I wondered that too.

I do not use heated gear as cold for us here in Oklahoma is 35*, so I do not see it as needed. . .yet ! Lol but the sat, aux, AM/FMare a real cool set up, as well as the GPS and lighting upgrades.

I am planning on LED upgrades, a stereo upgrade , and driving light upgrade, but I really am interested in what else anyone else has done too. . .

It's a one-off single board computer I built and programmed to run a few different things on my bike. Read about it here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10172&start=75#p50777

I am on the right track then, added a bicycle water bottle holder already, MP3 player is coming soon, undecided on GPS as I like "paper" maps.
Hoping to add a Corbin or Mustang seat one day, and for now, my bike has a Utopia back rest ( on it when purchased ). It also has kuryakyn highway pegs on the engine guards.

Added Progressive springs to front, Just recently added Progressive 416's. Changed 90% of my lights to LED bulbs/strips. Added lighting to the trunk (inside). Replaced a failed 18yr old Wig-Wag with a new Wig-Wag. Added a Compufire (after 2 stock alternators crapped out).

My bike has a functioning Wig Wag that is hooked up to JUST the trunk brake lights, Alt upgrade is planned for when ever mine dies, and as stated before, LED upgrades where ever I can over time.
Full progressive upgrade is happening with the up coming taxes,( 416's rear, new Progressive springs , seals, oil ).
Also new E3's with Dyna-beads at tax time.
I am also converting the cornering lights to amber LEDs, adding LED driving lights below the headlight, and what ever else I can convince the wife I MUST HAVE ! lol

Paper is still good.I carry a Rand McNally Road Atlas, but GPS is good for finding fuel, lodging or whatever when the time comes. We ride until we want to stop and then just punch in lodging and take our pick.Even if you camp it'll find you a camp ground quicker than you can.
